A glamping operator in the Swiss Alps wanted to stand out in a crowded market: adding high-end units to attract luxury travelers willing to pay premium rates. The site, a scenic mountain meadow, had strict environmental rules—no permanent foundations allowed.
Balancing Luxury & Ecology: Luxury travelers expected amenities like fireplaces and king-size beds—hard to fit in small, mobile structures. Environmental rules meant no digging or concrete, so foundations had to be temporary. And the operator needed to move units to storage in winter to protect the meadow.
The Apple Cabin Design: Custom prefab movable apple cabins were the solution. Eight 4m×5m units, shaped like polished apples with cedar wood exteriors, blended seamlessly with the mountain landscape. Each featured a stone-clad fireplace, king-size bed with organic linens, a mini-bar stocked with local wines, and a private terrace with mountain views. Mounted on wheels, the cabins sat on gravel pads (no digging required) and could be towed to storage in a single day.
Premium Results: Installation took just five days, with no damage to the meadow. The units fetched a $500 nightly rate—double the operator’s previous offerings—and hit 95% occupancy during the ski season. The operator expanded to 16 cabins six months later and was referred to three other European glamping chains by satisfied guests.
