Project Background: A ski resort in British Columbia, Canada planned to add 8 staff dormitories and 1 equipment storage room around the ski resort. The snow depth in this area can reach 2 meters in winter, and the temperature can drop to -30℃, which places strict requirements on the load-bearing, thermal insulation and durability of the houses.
Core Customer Needs: Super load-bearing capacity, extreme thermal insulation, freeze and corrosion resistance, rapid construction, and compatibility with the ski resort's heating system.
Solution: Upgraded Shipping Container Houses were adopted, which were transformed from decommissioned shipping containers. The main structure was subjected to anti-corrosion and derusting treatment, and a 3-layer thermal insulation structure (exterior wall rock wool + interior wall polyurethane + vacuum insulation board) was added. The roof adopted a sloped roof design and was equipped with snow load reinforcement parts, which could bear a snow load of 50kg/㎡. The interior adopted a floor heating system, which was connected to the existing heating pipe network of the ski resort. At the same time, a fresh air system was equipped to prevent indoor dampness in winter.
Implementation Results: The transformation and installation were completed in 20 days. The indoor temperature was stably maintained at 22℃ in winter, and no structural deformation occurred due to roof snow accumulation. The 8 dormitories could accommodate 32 staff, and the storage room could store ski equipment maintenance tools and emergency supplies. After 2 ski seasons of use, the houses had no problems such as water leakage and corrosion, and the maintenance cost was only 15% of that of traditional brick-concrete houses. This case helped the brand enter the North American ski resort market and obtained 4 similar project orders.
